  • 80/10/10 and update!

Wow it has been forever since I have posted but I have so busy trying to find a new job/organize my life that this blog has sort of taken a backseat! Even though I have not been posting very much, I certainly still manage to find time to read through all my favourite blogs and find lots of vegan inspiration and yummy recipes! As of late I have been really interested in the 80/10/10 plan wherein you basically follow a daily feast of yummy, ripe fruit! Even though I am not following this plan to the letter, I generally have been eating a LFRV diet until the afternoon at which point I may have a Lara bar or some vegan cookies (oops!) and then follow up with a HUGE raw veggie salad in the evening with non-raw dressing. I have tried making a few raw dressings for my salads but I haven’t found a concoction that is anything spectacular. Even eating this way for about 2/3 of the day has made a huge difference to my energy levels, which surprised me a lot, and I’ve only been doing it for less than a week. I am certainly interested in experimenting with this way of eating more and more, especially through the summer while so many delicious fruits are in season!

  • A post from my other Tumblr account….

I ran. I started. I finished. I fell in between, but I ran. This past Sunday I completed my first 10k ‘race’ in the Vancouver Sun Run.Back in December I started a 5k training program that I hoped would evolve into a 10k training program. Only three weeks into the program however, I started experiencing intense pain in my lower legs.Shin splints.I was not happy, but I decided the best thing to do was rest up, let my shins heal and get back to the program when I could actually walk without pain jetting through my legs.In January I registered for the Sun Run, eagerly hoping I could finish it in 1 hour and 10 mins once I got back to my training. My left leg healed fine but my right leg continued to ache daily. I had but given up on the thought of running. In the meantime however, Ben and I were training for the BC Ride to Conquer Cancer and were cycling a couple times per week. Starting at 20k, we recently completed our first 60k ride. The week of the Sun Run, I noticed my shins hadn’t bothered me at all and decided to go ahead and participate, even if I ended up walking.I’m happy to report that not only did I participate, I ran. All the cycling I have been doing clearly impacted my cardio endurance more than I knew, and I finished the run in 1 hour, 10 mins and 30 seconds. I met my target! It’s not a time to write home about, but it was exactly what I had hoped for.I was high on endorphins all week.

I ran. I started. I finished. I fell in between, but I ran.

This past Sunday I completed my first 10k ‘race’ in the Vancouver Sun Run.

Back in December I started a 5k training program that I hoped would evolve into a 10k training program. Only three weeks into the program however, I started experiencing intense pain in my lower legs.

    Shin splints.

I was not happy, but I decided the best thing to do was rest up, let my shins heal and get back to the program when I could actually walk without pain jetting through my legs.

In January I registered for the Sun Run, eagerly hoping I could finish it in 1 hour and 10 mins once I got back to my training.

I was high on endorphins all week.

“I don’t usually post photos like this, but I think it’s dramatic without being gory. It tells quite a story about what humans do to other animals for profit. I wish all of my friends who so nonchalantly speak of their ‘love’ of bacon and other animal products would for a moment be made to see, hear and smell the origin of the foods they ‘love’ so much.” - Mary Martin Loder
